ABOUT KIMO

“Aloha is alive and well at Hike Maui!” declares Kimo, who was born—and mostly raised—on our beautiful island, and serves as our unofficial ambassador of aloha. “I’m so grateful to be part of this organization that gives me the opportunity to share my aloha with guests,” he says.

When he’s not guiding for us, it’s likely you’ll find Kimo surfing, standup paddling, or bodyboarding. “I love being in the ocean, period. Our ancestors taught us to respect the ocean and its resources, and also the importance of protecting those resources for future generations.” And if he’s not in the water or out hiking, Kimo enjoys creating art, as well as listening to and playing music.

For Kimo, the best part of being a Hike Maui guide is being able to share his culture and traditions with others. “So many people come to Hawai‘i and return home without encountering one person who has shared their mana‘o (beliefs). Here it’s my job, and it brings me so much gratitude.”

Guest quote: Kimo was phenomenal! He takes pride in his homeland, and is a great wealth of information. He made sure everyone in our group was well taken care of and aware of what to do. Do yourself a favor and spend a day with Kimo!
