ABOUT DAVE

Our resident Aussie, Dave has been a Maui resident for nearly a decade. He spent a majority of that time working as a zipline guide before joining the Hike Maui ‘ohana (family).

Not only does Dave love being outdoors, he also enjoys meeting new people and helping them complete their hikes. “It’s so rewarding to see the looks on their faces when they go beyond their comfort zone,” he says.

Two of his favorite topics of discussion with his guests are kukui nuts—especially the traditional lei that incorporate them—and Hawaiian mythology. “I enjoy sharing how early Hawaiians lived and treated the land,” he explains, noting that he encourages people to embrace this biophilic lifestyle in the modern world.

Dave spends most of his free time with his daughter pursuing outdoor activities like surfing and horseback riding. He has always enjoyed travelling, and previously spent time in Europe, South America and various destinations in the U.S. “But when I got to Maui, I stopped. And I pretty much haven’t gone anywhere since.”

Guest quote: Our guide Dave was super friendly and knowledgeable, and made sure he was positioned to give everyone a hand and make sure they were safe. He took us to spots we never would have found on our own. We learned a lot about Hawaiian history, and thoroughly enjoyed the day!
