ABOUT TIM

Before moving to Maui, Tim was a tour guide in Ketchikan and Sitka, Alaska, where he led groups on myriad adventures like kayaking, canoeing, Jeep off-roading and, of course, hiking. “That was my first foray into working as a naturalist,” he explains.

With an undergraduate degree in political science under his belt, Tim went on to obtain a master’s degree in environmental resources management from Western Colorado University. Prior to joining Hike Maui, he interned for the Maui Invasive Species Committee, where he focused on conservation and also conducted research on coqui frogs. While on tour, Tim builds his guest experience around sustainability and conservation in Hawai’i. He also thrives on educating his hikers about native plants and birds.

In his spare time, Tim enjoys snorkeling, freediving, filming underwater with his GoPro, and traveling. “I’m considering revisiting Nepal in the near future. I have friends there, and last time we went on a several-weeks-long hike through the Himalayas.”

Guest quote: Our guide Tim was fantastic! He pointed out lots of amazing things we would have missed on our own, and his knowledge on the history of the area was fascinating. He kept us entertained from the moment we stepped into the van. My teenage sons said this was their favorite excursion on Maui!
