Yes! We reopened for tours on Monday, October 19, 2020.

Because our tours take place outdoors, and in small groups away from crowds, we believe going on a hike with us is a relatively low risk activity. According to the CDC, staying physically active is one of the best ways to keep your mind and body healthy. Health officials suggest outdoor activities are safe if participants are following health & safety guidelines. We have implemented many new protocols to keep everyone safe, some of which include:
- Requiring all guests and employees to complete a COVID-19 certification on a daily basis
- Utilizing 6 feet of physical distancing whenever possible
- Checking temperatures of all guests prior to beginning tours
- Requiring participants and guides to wear masks when physical distancing of 6 feet isn’t possible
- Implementing extra cleaning protocols
- Providing hand sanitizer
- Limiting group size to 7 hikers at most (50% of capacity), unless you’re all one group or family
- Offering private tours
- Running even smaller group sizes whenever possible
Of course, we are following all state and local mandates, laws, regulations, and guidelines. We’re committed to doing all we can to provide the safest experience possible to protect your health and ours.

Yes. Our primary concern has always been keeping you and our employees safe, and this has not changed. We recommend you take your own temperature daily leading up to the tour to make sure you’re not running a fever. Anyone registering a temperature of 100.4°or higher will not be allowed to participate. Additionally, we will require you to “self-certify” that you are not experiencing other common COVID-19 symptoms, and have not knowingly come in direct contact with anyone with active COVID-19. We also require this of all our employees.

Hawai’i’s Safe Travels Program allows you to bypass a 10-day quarantine by providing proof of a negative Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a certified Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) lab taken within 72 hours of your final leg of departure. If test results aren’t available before you board the final leg of your trip, you’ll be required to quarantine for 10 days. You can find more information HERE.
-
We are currently offering full refunds for all cancellations due to COVID-19 related travel interruptions.

Currently we have a low number of active COVID-19 cases on Maui. Check HERE for the latest info.

The number one way to keep us all safe is to STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE SICK. Also, PLEASE STAY AWAY IF A FAMILY MEMBER IS SICK. If you have knowingly been exposed to someone with COVID-19, PLEASE STAY AWAY. We do ask that you call us as soon as possible if you need to cancel your tour. We also ask that while on our tour you follow all Hike Maui safety protocols.

Our normal cancellation policy is 48 hours before your trip. Due to the extreme set of circumstances we find ourselves in, we’ll be as flexible as we can if your reason for cancelling is due to quarantine, isolation, or flu-like symptoms. Please recognize we do this in good faith, and we appreciate as much notice as you can give us if you need to cancel your tour. Last-minute cancellations are a loss for all of us.

On the Tour
-
We have SO many precautions! We believe it’s our responsibility as a tour operator to do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on our tours, and to protect our guests and employees in every way possible. Read our New Safety Practices & Protocols HERE
Since our tours primarily take place outdoors, and in small groups away from crowds, we believe going on a hike with us is a relatively low-risk activity.
-
We’ve developed and implemented a plan following the EPA’s “Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Workplaces.” We’re using EPA-approved cleansers, disinfectants, and sanitizers on all high-touch surfaces and frequently used areas. Our vehicles are sanitized according to CDC guidelines. We sanitize our fleet with Bioesque® Botanical Disinfectant, an environmentally friendly, EPA-registered Broad-Spectrum Disinfectant on the American Chemistry Council’s list of EPA pre-approved coronavirus-fighting products. Backpacks and other equipment we provide are washed and/or sanitized after each use.
-
We hike in small groups! We’ve reduced our tour capacity to 50% of maximum to allow for physical distancing during the tour and in our 15-passenger vans. Group sizes are limited to 7 hikers plus your guide.
-
Yes, that’s a great way to play it extra safe! To book a private tour for just your group, please give us a call at (808) 879-5270. We’ve discounted our private tour rates by 20% for groups of 1-8 hikers.

-
Yes. The State of Hawai’i mandates the wearing of a facial covering while outdoors when physical distance of six (6) feet from other individuals (who are not members of the same household/living unit/residence) isn’t possible. You’ll need to wear your mask during the van ride, and during some portions of the hike where physical distancing is impossible.
-
Any of these are acceptable: disposable paper face masks, multi-layer cloth masks, N95 or KN95, or respirator masks.
-
No, sorry. We’re requiring masks for everyone’s safety.

We regret that we’ll be unable to accommodate you if you cannot wear a mask. Mahalo for your understanding.
