PARAGLIDING

See Maui from the air in the most peaceful way possible. Dexter, his mom, Dottie, and their two male ducks, Chucky and Snoopy, have a small family tour company. Ah, yes, I did say ducks. Dexter’s pet ducks are trained to fly along with him. They can’t go every morning, but when they do, it’s an added thrill.

Afraid? No need. Dexter has been gliding since 1993 and hang gliding for six years before that. He has never had an accident and has taken thousands of people in tandem harnesses (hooked to him). “People think they’re afraid of heights,” he says, “but what they’re afraid of is falling. You don’t fall in paragliding, you just glide. You’re very secure in the harness. I’ve never had anyone afraid after the flight, only before.”

Requirements: Be between the ages of 7 and 70, physically able to run, and weigh less than 230 pounds. They can take only four to six people a day. It’s a small operation, so sign up now.

Fifteen-Minute Flight
• Descend 3000 feet in tandem with Dexter.
• Early in the morning, seven days a week. Times change seasonally due to winds. Time and place details given when booked.
